AMELIA ISLAND HALF MARATHON: WK 5 TRAINING

I can’t believe I’m already at the 1/3 mark for my half training. I have to say, this has been quite the enjoyable (knock on wood) training cycle! I’m constantly feeling challenged by the heat and humidity, but feeling strong mentally and can’t wait to see the hard work pay off in the Fall. With the new job, I’m finding myself surrounded by so many others who are also training for their own races, and it’s so fun to think that we’re all working towards the same goal.

Let’’s get into the good stuff-

Monday- Rest day- you already know the routine (bath day, best day). I was off work today, so decided to also make it an active rest day and took Ryder to the park for a leisurely stroll.

Tuesday- 4 miles easy run with strides- I’m not going to lie, I was running pretty pressed for time here (I was snuggling with the dog in bed, what can I say), so rather than keeping my mileage as planned but at a faster pace, I just went based on the allotted time I knew I could work with. Somehow this helped to make the dreaded Tuesday run a bit more enjoyable.

Wednesday- 5 miles speed- this was a pretty fun run, and I’m liking the combination runs of slow starts and faster finishes. My AirPods were also dead, so I played some jazz quietly on speakerphone as I went- the combination of soft music and nature was quite soothing.

Thursday- Rest day- nothing too thrilling to report here, the usual rest day activities took place.

Friday- 4 miles easy run with strides- this was one of those runs where it got done, don’t know what I thought about the entire run (??) and felt pretty good when I got home. I’d call it a win!

Saturday- aerobic cross training- this morning I woke up at the crack of dawn to manage the running store for a large group that was preparing for a marathon. It was so inspiring to see each and every one of them getting after it, and made the early wake up call worth it.

I haven’t been utilizing my bicycle like I had originally wanted to on cross training days, so I’m going to make it a goal to get better here.

Sunday- 6 miles easy- today I did my run with a coworker! The only other person I’ve run with has been my fiancé, which has been a challenge as our speeds vary so differently, so I wanted to give it a shot. In general, I enjoy having these long runs be reserved as alone time, but it was fun getting to chat as we went, and I found the run to go by so much faster. The pace was a bit faster than where I’d ideally like to be at for a long run, and mentally am feeling a bit tired after this, but my legs are feeling strong.

What’s your favorite type of run?
