AMELIA ISLAND HALF MARATHON: WK 4 TRAINING

Super delayed with getting this week up and running- starting a new job, wedding planning, and life really tries to test you on priorities. Although this fell down in rank on the list, better late than never!

Let’s get into the good stuff-

Monday- Rest day- I feel like with each passing week, I’ve lacked more and more on my recovery efforts (other than baths, because how could I skip those). I know I shouldn’t be too hard on myself as it is a rest day after all, but even a few minutes of foam rolling or theragun massage could do the trick!

Tuesday- 3.5 miles easy run with strides- I think I may be on to why Tuesday runs just flat out SUCK, and Sunday runs rule all. It’s that awkward start to the week after a rest day where I just never want to get out. I constantly try to push my run off on these days, and by that time usually end up on the treadmill. Good news is it’s usually my shortest of the week, so things could be worse in that department.

Wednesday- 5 miles speed- every run has a lesson, even if the run itself was good. Today’s run? Great! Lesson? Water. More than you could possibly think.

Thursday- Rest day- I have some flexibility with scheduling at my new job, and actually had today off. Kind of wished I had a run planned for today so that I could take my time with that, but I wanted to stay in-line with my training plan, so got some strength training in at the Y. Last week I had wanted to challenge myself to getting in some more mobility work, and I focused on that as well for my hip flexors.

Friday- 4.5 miles easy run with strides- funny story today. I deviated from my usual route and wanted to challenge myself with some hills (and by hills I mean Florida’s version aka bridges) and a change of scenery- I find that switching routes up is great for safety, but also helps to keep things fun! Fast forward to the start of my day at work, and my new colleague was telling me about his run (time he left, route, etc.)- we ran the same route at the same time and 100% waved to each other as we passed, not even realizing we would be meeting again later in the day. The running community is so neat!

Saturday- aerobic cross training- I was on my feet pretty much all day at work, so figured that was enough “cross training” for me.

Sunday- 5K- this was most certainly not a Sunday funday. We were going out of town for the day, so I had gotten up bright and early to get this one done. Figured 3 miles (speedy ones, at that) should be easy peasy, but boy was I wrong. Since I got out before the sun was up, I figured I’d bring Ryder along with me as he’d be able to stay a bit cooler. Someone (other than myself) was not pleased to be out of bed, and he made sure I knew that. After 2 miles of constant stopping, sniffing, and dragging, we decided to call it quits and head back home. Still felt pretty challenged by this run, so not a complete wash.

Do you enjoy running alone or with a companion (dog/human)?
