AMELIA ISLAND HALF MARATHON: WK 2 TRAINING

Here we go- again! Gearing up for week 2 (week 1 happened, but let’s be real- starting a blog is hard stuff) of my half marathon training. I completed my first half in April of 2023, and instantly found myself wanting more. I came across the Amelia Island half marathon and knew it would be perfect- it’s a week before our wedding (stress reliever, am I right?), within driving distance of our house, AND it’s created by women, for women!

Let’s get into it the good stuff-

Monday- Rest day, with suggestion to foam roll, bath, and stretch. I’m not going to lie, nothing hits quite like a hot bath paired back to a new kindle read (currently reading Winter in Paradise by Elin Hilderbrand). Today was a good day.

Tuesday- 3 miles easy run with strides- nothing about this run was easy. Florida has been unbearably hot and humid the past few days (why should I be surprised, it is summer after all), so figured I’d be adventurous and get an early morning run in! I honestly cannot put into words how miserable I was, so we’ll leave it at that.

Wednesday- 4 miles fartlek- what the heck is a fartlek (is what my fiancé asked)? It’s a continuous run with unstructured speed work- sounds fun!! I left the streets and headed to the Y (I was scarred from Tuesday’s weather), and jumped on a treadmill for the first time in what felt like forever. I usually find the treadmills to be quite boring, but I found myself in the prime spot to people watch outdoor runners while I basked in the AC. Win-win.

Thursday- Rest #2 for the week- back to the Y! Got some core work and stretching in while I watched people play pickle ball. Am I the only one who hasn’t played it at this point?

Friday- 4 miles easy with strides- and this one was outdoors. I put this run off until mid-day when temps were scorching, BUT, rain was approaching within the next hour. Surely I could finish my hot run with a cool down rinse at the end, right? Kristin- 0, Sun- 1.

Saturday- aerobic cross training- aka walk/bicycle. The pooch voted to walk, so Ryder (our Dalmatian) and I made our way over the bridge and ended up at the local arts market. Did some sniffing, got water, and made our way home. We’ve recently been terrorized by a mockingbird near our neighborhood, and today was no different.

Sunday- 5.5 miles easy- Sundays runs are usually my favorite of the week, and today was no different. The streets were quiet, it was overcast, and I threw on a jazz playlist to keep things relaxing.

What do you enjoy listening to on runs?
